Architectural Symbols and SignsNot all Braille and tactile sign manufacturers are the same...Architectural Symbols and Signs (AS&S) offer a comprehensive range of Braille and tactile signs to help blind and visually impaired people, which in turn help you meet your obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). Although other signage companies offer a similar service, the sheer range of our products and standard of our auditing expertise in determining where Braille, tactile, Moon, Makaton or Widgit signs should be positioned is unmatched. Our dedicated staff have spent years in the field with blind and visually impaired groups and specialist organisations such as Mencap; discussing the necessity for the correct type of signage and its optimum positioning, therefore we can give you good advice and can quickly understand your needs. Most other Tactile & Braille signage manufacturers don’t understand Braille; they just rely upon computer software for their transcriptions, and this often leads to mistakes; because the Braille language and its rules can be complex; especially if you want or need Grade 2 Braille. There is nothing worse than a Braille spelling mistake on a sign. Because we understand the language and the rules we are able to ensure our Braille signs are correct. We also ensure that the tactile text has extra spacing between them and extra spacing between the lines of text; as per the Sign Design Guide; written by the JMU Access Partnership. Braille "finger push plates" signs Architectural Symbols and Signs can punch any message in any language on your Braille signs to help blind and visually impaired visitors or employees move around your building with ease. Typically, Braille signs should be fixed in a consistent location, where they will be easily found, and at heights within reach of the mobility impaired.
Tactile signs Our standard tactile signs come with yellow or white letters on a black background for optimum contrast and visibility. The letters are photo- luminescent (they glow in the dark) and therefore offer fantastic colour contrast in all light conditions (Architectural Symbols and Signs are the only company in the world to use this method). We can of course use your corporate colours as long as they offer good colour contrast. To finish them off, we then mount our tactile plates on a quality satin stainless, brass, or bronze plate, which is the same material that is used for the Braille signs.
